The test bench
One question per session
Copy this small observation protocol into your own notes. It asks for actions, not ratings, and keeps player identities out of the record.
BUILD: QUESTION TO TEST: TASK GIVEN TO PLAYER: OBSERVED ACTION: MY INTERPRETATION: ONE CHANGE TO TRY: WHAT WOULD DISPROVE IT:
Example: the unreadable door
A player walks past a door twice. That is the observation. “The player did not notice the door” is one interpretation; it might also have looked inaccessible. Change one cue and repeat the task before deciding which explanation fits.
For the complete sequence, use the paper-to-playtest field note. This is an original planning resource; you may adapt it for your own project.
